About The Old World

Long ago, in a past beyond the past, the world was nothing but a blackened sea of darkness. But when the Light of Arrania shine through upon His birth, the creation of the Old World would be made. A vast world consisting of the Great Continent, the Archipelago and the Island. This is the history of the Old World from the first age of writing to the end of it all.

Welcome to the Old World, my current worldbuilding focus. The Old World is where the Legend of Arrania took place in, telling the ancient story that was once lost to time but brought back into a new but preserved light.

The Geography of the Old World

1. THE GREAT CONTINENT

The massive centerpiece of the world, defined by its harsh interior and varied fringes.

  • The Center (Plateaus): High-altitude, rocky tablelands that dominate the skyline.

  • The North (Tundra): Frozen plains that stay locked in permafrost year-round.

  • The South (Desert): A sun-scorched wasteland where the Light of Arrania is at its most punishing.

  • The East & West (Semi-Arid Plains): The "breadbaskets" of the continent—vast, dry grasslands that support the majority of the world's roaming herds and frontier settlements.

2. THE ARCHIPELAGOS

A fragmented region divided into four distinct maritime zones:

  • Ungio-Puwic Island: The largest landmass of the set, serving as a hub for the northern seas.

  • The Tenyoric Clusters: The "True Archipelago"—a dense scattering of hundreds of smaller islands.

  • Unoic Island (Southwest): A remote outpost facing the western gales.

  • Akinkahric Island (Southeast): A gateway island positioned near the Great Continent’s eastern reach.

3. THE ISLAND

A landmass to the East, covered entirely in dense woodland. The canopy is so thick that the forest floor exists in a state of permanent twilight, housing ecosystems found nowhere else in the Old World.

4. THE CALDERA

A dead remnant of a prehistoric volcano. Despite its volcanic origins, it has evolved into a lush, isolated paradise similar to Hawaii or Easter Island. It is characterized by basalt cliffs, tropical greenery, and perhaps the carved stone remnants of those who lived there before the fire died.

5. THE QULTEAN ISLAND

Located in the Southern Hemisphere, this island enjoys a Mediterranean climate. Expect dry, warm summers and mild, wet winters, making it one of the most hospitable and agriculturally rich locations outside of the Great Continent.

6. THE SOUTHERN PENINSULA

A long, elegant string of islands that connect toward the Southern Continent. It shares a climate similar to Japan, featuring four distinct seasons, temperate rainforests, and mountainous terrain. It serves as the final bastion of temperate life before the world turns to ice.

7. THE SOUTHERN CONTINENT

Identical to Antarctica. A massive, uninhabitable desert of ice and snow. It is the silent foundation of the world, where the Light of Arrania is reflected off endless glaciers.

The Climates of the Old World

The Northern Tundra: A region of permafrost and biting winds.

The Southern Continent: As the polar anchor of the world, this is a region of perpetual glacial climate. It experiences extreme sub-zero temperatures and is considered largely inhospitable to human and monster life.

The Plateaus: Experience a high-altitude climate, cooler than the plains, with thin air and intense, unfiltered sunlight.

The Semi-Arid Plains (East/West): Characterized by distinct wet and dry seasons. The rainfall is moderate but essential for the civilizations residing here.

The Southern Desert: A true rain-shadow region. The heat is dry and stifling, creating a natural boundary that few dare to cross.

The Southern Peninsula: This region enjoys a Humid Subtropical/Temperate climate. It features four clearly defined seasons: mild, flowery springs; warm, humid summers; crisp, colorful autumns; and cool, snowy winters.

Qultean Island: A mild climate characterized by hot, dry summers and cool, rainy winters. It is an agricultural haven, insulated from the harsher weather patterns of the larger continents by the surrounding seas.

The Archipelagos (Maritime Boreal): These islands experience a cool, oceanic climate. The weather is dominated by consistent sea breezes, heavy fog, and frequent precipitation, keeping the islands lush but perpetually damp.

The Caldera (Tropical/Subtropical): Despite being a "dead" volcano, the region acts as a geothermal microclimate. It is warm, humid, and sheltered from cold northern winds, allowing for a lush, thriving environment.

The Island (Temperate Rainforest): A high-humidity climate. The density of the woodland canopy traps moisture, creating an "inner climate" that remains cool and sheltered regardless of the weather outside.
